This summer, NC WARN hosted its inaugural Youth Summer Series—done virtually due to COVID-19—as an endeavor to bolster local climate youth activism engagement, both in NC WARN campaigns and for the students’ own skill-building and education of climate justice.
We covered topics including but not limited to: climate injustices in NC like Duke Energy’s monopoly, coal ash, and hog farms; the Energy Justice North Carolina coalition; NC WARN’s Climate Emergency Declaration Campaign; and the NC WARN Clean Path 2025. The students also learned tools for campaign planning and promo material creation. A total of 17 awesome youth participants completed the 5-week series with us that culminated in a webinar that they planned and led themselves in early August; the recording of this webinar is viewable above.
It was an amazing experience for the NC WARN staff who led the Series, and we hope that it was just as great for the students, too!
